The 1st Study Visit within the BBWT Project took place in Oslo

CoP ZECS members visit Fornebubanen, Oslo

Invited by the City of Oslo, the Lead of the BBWT CoP Zero Emission Construction Sites (ZECS), the CoP members took part in the 2nd Toward Zero-Emission Off-Road Equipment Symposium held on 18-19 September in Oslo. The Symposium brought together a diverse spectrum of stakeholders, including policymakers at national and local levels, energy authorities, off-road machinery manufacturers, industry associations, construction companies, operators, rental firms, financing institutions, and research experts to advance the deployment of zero-emission off-road machinery. Co-hosted by the City of Oslo, C40 and the International Council on Clean Transportation, the event provided deep insight into the landscape of this burgeoning market, exploring emerging technology trends, and identifying effective policy measures that incentivize sustainable practices.

The CoP ZECS Members took part in the Study Visit to the construction site of an 8km metro line extension in Fornebubanen, Oslo. With the budget of 2 billion EUR, the works commenced in 2020 and are envisaged to be finished in 2029. Participants learned about social objectives and environmental aspects of the project, project shared ownership, contracts strategy and tendering procedures, sustainability policy, status of selected KIPs, and experiences with zero emission and fossil free work sites and machines. Special focus was given to sharing experiences with arranging of adequate high-power voltage power supply, discussing advantages and disadvantages of the ZECS concept as well as successes and challenges identified through the project implementation.  It was concluded that when we know the challenges, we can plan and try to find new and better solutions. Visit to the construction site also provided participants a chance to see some of the heavy electric equipment in work.

The CoP ZECS members are enthusiastic to continue with the implementation of upcoming activities leading towards reaching objectives of the CoP.
