Industrial Accelerator Act to strengthen European industry and create jobs

Industrial Accelerator Act strengthening industry and creating jobs in Europe

The European Commission has proposed a new Industrial Accelerator Act aimed at strengthening Europe’s industrial base, creating quality jobs and reinforcing economic security, while accelerating decarbonisation through re-industrialisation.

In line with the recommendations of the Draghi report, the Act introduces targeted and proportionate ‘Made in EU’ and/or low-carbon requirements for public procurement and public support schemes. These measures will initially apply to selected strategic sectors, including steel, cement, aluminium, automotive and net-zero technologies, with the possibility to extend the framework to other energy-intensive sectors such as chemicals.

The initiative is designed to strengthen European production capacity and stimulate demand for European-made clean technologies and products. It also requires Member States to establish a single digital permitting process to accelerate and simplify manufacturing projects across the EU.
