The Big Buyers Working Together’s Community of Practice (CoP) on Circular Construction (CC) held its third meeting on June 5.
During the meeting, representatives of Lisbon and Vilnius shared the latest news regarding the CC activities in their cities. The City of Lisbon shared exciting news about the National Laboratory of Engineering's focus on workshops related to refurbished buildings and the implementation of pre-demolition regulation processes. The city is also concluding a pilot project on using refurbished materials in construction of road segments and is developing national recommendations on green procurement. The City of Vilnius introduced Lithuania's progress in CC, highlighting a project on road construction using Environmental Product Declarations (EPD). Lithuania is expanding its minimum environmental criteria to increase the reuse of materials in various construction projects. However, challenges remain, as public buyers are hesitant to use materials from old buildings due to concerns about quality and safety.
Members of the CoP are looking forward to continuing with regular sharing of their experiences and lessons learned in the field of CC and are very enthusiastic about the first Study Visit envisaged for September, to further explore CC best practices.
