As digitalisation becomes a key driver of the EU’s economic recovery, public procurement plays a pivotal role in shaping the future of the digital landscape. In fact, public procurement accounts for 14% of the EU’s GDP, making it one of the most powerful tools to steer markets towards sustainable and innovative solutions. This potential is particularly important in Information and Communication Technology (ICT), where public buyers can drive demand for environmentally friendly technologies that align with the EU’s green and digital goals.
With the EU mandating that at least 20% of national recovery plans focus on digital transformation, ICT procurement has become both a high-impact area and a growing challenge. The rapid pace of technological change, combined with emerging concerns over cybersecurity, transparency, and the environmental impact of digital solutions, means that public procurement professionals must navigate a complex landscape.
The Community of Practice (CoP) Digital has been established to help public buyers across the EU navigate this complexity. Our goal is to support public buyers in integrating environmental and sustainability criteria into their digital procurement processes. By focusing on areas like ecolabels, lifecycle analysis, and innovative awarding criteria, we aim to align ICT procurement with the EU’s broader climate and environmental objectives.
We are continuously looking for new members who are passionate about transforming ICT procurement for a sustainable future.
