Banner

Objectives of the training:

This training is designed to provide public authorities with the necessary knowledge and expertise to identify key opportunities to drive sustainability in the ICT sector through the procurement process, with two main objectives:

1. Empowering participants with a deeper knowledge of sustainability in ICT

Exploring current challenges in the ICT supply chain and the negative environmental impact of ICT. Identifying the main issues and challenges at stake, as well as the opportunities for public buyers to advance sustainability goals and targets.

2. Equipping participants with the knowledge to apply sustainability certifications, with an initial* focus on TCO Certified

Offering a comprehensive understanding of sustainability certifications, starting with TCO Certified as a leading sustainability certification for ICT products. Participants will learn about the benefits and challenges of using certifications to ensure product compliance with sustainability criteria; how to integrate TCO certified and other criteria in their tenders; and how to ensure compliance.

*Several certifications are available on the market. In this training we propose to begin with a deep-dive on one of them, with the idea of looking at further certifications/standards in future sessions.

Who should join?

The training is offered to BBWT participants in the Community of Practice (CoP) Digital – Sustainability in ICT, with each participating public authority free to take part with multiple representatives. Potential new members of the CoPs are also invited to join to give them a practical opportunity to learn more about the activities and objectives of the Community.

The training will be delivered by experts from Eurocities and TCO Certified (as well as potential additional experts).

How will the training take place?

The training will take place over a full day, in presence or online depending on participants' availability. The session will include lecture-style introductory presentations, pitching style sessions, presentations of best practices, and interactive exercises. The objective of the training is to provide participants with a deeper understanding of the issues involved when discussing sustainability in ICT, the challenges and barriers involved, as well as providing them with deeper knowledge on the tools available to include sustainability in ICT procurement.
