Description
Implementing Building Information Modelling (BIM) offers numerous advantages for construction companies. The European BIM market was valued at EUR 1.8 billion in 2016 and is projected to grow by 13.0% until 2023. But what are the challenges for implementing BIM? National governments alongside with industry stakeholders launch different initiatives to foster the adoption of BIM in the sector. Three case studies from Poland, France and Denmark highlight different approaches and lessons learnt.
This paper looks at BIM implementation in the EU, analyses the drivers, opportunities, and challenges around its implementation, and draws recommendations for EU policy makers and other relevant actors on how to support and foster the adoption of BIM by the construction industry. For the purpose of this paper, the geographical scope will not cover all Member States, but rather a representative sample of the groups mentioned above: Denmark will hence represent Northern European countries, France will represent Western European countries, while Poland will represent Eastern European countries
