This report includes the conclusions of the webinars held to discover different roles of public sector with regard to AI, together with the material and main findings of the closing event. It reveals recent challenges, opportunities, and policy perspectives of the use of AI in the public sector, and distils a set of short takeaway messages.

Barcelona City Council has approved its “Definition of work methodologies and protocols for implementing algorithmic systems”, which aims to create an internal protocol for implementing algorithmic systems at a municipal level. This is a pioneering document in regard to the regulation and governance of algorithmic systems at a local level. It is applicable to any algorithmic system promoted by Barcelona City Council, and aims to guarantee that such systems are used in a proportionate, supervised and grounded way, in accordance with legal, ethical and technical standards.

The 2021 Coordinated Plan on Artificial Intelligence, published in April of that year, builds on the collaboration established between the Commission and Member States during the 2018 Coordinated Plan.
