How can public procurement advance the New European Bauhaus?

picture webinar

On 27 March (15-16 CET) the Big Buyers Working Together (BBWT) project will organise a webinar that will explore how public procurement can advance the New European Bauhaus (NEB) principles. The webinar aims to give public authorities a better understanding of how sustainable public procurement can connect to NEB and to encourage them to join the BBWT’s community of practice on NEB.

The webinar will highlight the aims of the Big Buyers Working Together project, introduce the key NEB principles and highlight how they could potentially be linked to sustainable public procurement through examples of case studies and best practices. More information about the speakers will follow soon. The webinar aims to support the kick off of the Community on Practice on NEB. This pioneering group will be the first initiative to explore meaningful links between sustainable public procurement. The group aims to focus on capacity building and awareness raising, develop guidance, recommendations and best practices, and engage in best practices.

The New European Bauhaus is a set of principles developed by the European Commission in the context of the European Green Deal, aiming to ensure that the transition is just as much a cultural one as it is a green one. It’s founded upon three key values: ‘Together’, ‘Sustainable’ and ‘Beautiful’. This offers new challenges and opportunities for public authorities, especially in projects with a connection to urban development and infrastructure. To what extent can tenders be written in a way that complies with the NEB principles? And how can these principles be translated in award criteria? The BBWT webinar and the Community of Practice aim to provide some first answers to these questions.

The webinar on NEB is organised by ICLEI Europe. Together with Eurocities and BME, ICLEI coordinates the Big Buyers Working Together project on behalf of the European Commission. Through 10 communities of practice, the project is supporting collaboration between public buyers with strong purchasing power and promoting the wider use of strategic public procurement for innovative and sustainable solutions.
