EU GPP Helpdesk Webinar 'Preserving water through public procurement'

Description

As part of the EU GPP Helpdesk (DG ENV), a webinar on water management, resource efficiency, and public procurement was held on 10 April from 14:00 to 15:30. The event highlighted how public procurement can be a powerful tool in addressing water-related challenges. By integrating water-focused criteria (such as favouring water-efficient technologies, infrastructure, and practices that reduce waste and pollution) public buyers can help significantly reduce water consumption and scarcity while enhancing water quality.

This webinar presented an exhaustive analysis given by the European Environment Agency on the state of the art of this topic in Europe, looking at different sectors that are most affected by the issue, as well as contributions of practical cases in public procurement processes from Italy and Portugal. The programme also featured a presentation on the design of criteria for sustainable development prepared by the Swedish National Agency for Public Procurement.
