Commission launches first investigation under Foreign Subsidies Regulation

The European Commission has recently launched its first in-depth investigation under the Foreign Subsidies Regulation, examining potential market distortions in a Bulgarian public procurement procedure involving electric ‘push-pull’ trains. Triggered by a notification sent from CRRC Qingdao Sifang Locomotive Co., Ltd., a Chinese state-owned subsidiary, the investigation aims to ensure fair competition by scrutinising foreign subsidies received by the company. The Commission is scheduled to conclude the investigation and reach a final decision by 2 July 2024.
