On 11 May 2023, more than 150 participants gathered in an online session to hear about and discuss the objectives of the “Organisation of workshops in the 27 Member States to develop a dialogue on the use of strategic public procurement (green, social and innovation)” project during a one-hour Webex webinar. The project is implemented by PricewaterhouseCoopers and ICLEI for the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs (DG GROW).
The purpose of the project is to set up workshops in each Member State to provide a dialogue between stakeholders on the use of public procurement as a strategic lever for innovative and sustainable public policy development. It will also aim to understand the current strategic use of public procurement within each of 27 Member States, identify existing barriers and potential solutions in the strategic use of public procurement, cooperate with local stakeholders to prepare a roadmap towards the development of strategic public procurement and above all unlock the full potential of contracting authorities to add value in the context of national and European policy objectives.
This online event served as an initial step of the project and an opportunity to present the main planned activities of the project, the means to include the key stakeholders in the process and a way to thoroughly explain what their involvement will be in the project implementation and organisation of the Member State workshops.
Jean-Yves Muylle, Head of Unit “Public Procurement policy”, European Commission, DG GROW, gave the opening keynote speech, which was followed by a presentation of the project objectives and stakeholders’ engagement by the project team of PricewaterhouseCoopers and ICLEI.
