As a result of the Needs Assessment in which more than 135 public authorities from the EEA participated, the Big Buyers Working Together (BBWT) project is pleased to announce the first of the 10 Communities of Practice that will be established under the Big Buyers Working Together (BBWT): The Zero Emission Construction Sites (ZECS)!

The Community of Practice that will onboard this platform the coming month and will be led by the City of Oslo, building on and expanding the work that has been performed under the previous Big Buyers for Climate and Environment project and the Joint Statement of Demand that was a result of that collaborative work. More information on the outcomes of the previous Big Buyers project can be found here.

The community of practice on the Zero Emission Construction Sites (ZECS) will bring together public authorities from across Europe, including the City of Helsinki, City of Copenhagen, City of Oslo, District of Neukolln in Berlin, City of Barcelona, the Central Government Real Estate Agency of the Netherlands, Infrastructure Malta, Helsinki Region Environmental Service Authority (HSY).

The Needs Assessment has made clear that there is an interest among the participants to work – among others – together on:

  • the availability of technologies to power construction site machineries,
  • public business models for ZECS,
  • the scaling up of existing pilot projects,
  • merging the topic of circular materials with the topic of ZECS,
  • tackling the environmental and social responsibility aspect in the batteries production chain.

Once onboarded, the CoP ZECS will develop its Community Roadmap to further define and communicate its objectives and more detailed collaboration activities. Other public authorities that have a great interest to join this working group are encouraged to contact the BBWT Secreteriat at all time, as the onboarding of new members to this Community is still possible.
