The European Commission’s drive to enhance strategic public procurement for green, social, and innovation purposes is gaining momentum through a series of collaborative workshops held across Member States. These workshops, known as the Procurement Dialogues and facilitated by a consortium led by PricewaterhouseCoopers and ICLEI, foster discussions between the Commission and Member States, highlighting the pivotal role of procurement in sustainable development.

The project has already conducted successful workshops in six countries including Belgium, Czechia, Cyprus, Greece, Malta, and Portugal. Furthermore, plans for engaging dialogues with Italy, Lithuania, Estonia, and Croatia will take place in early 2024, highlighting the extensive engagement and interest among stakeholders.

At its core, this initiative aims to map the current landscape of strategic public procurement, identify barriers, and create solutions together with local stakeholders.

To sustain this collaboration and disseminate insights from the Procurement Dialogues, a dedicated Community of Practice has been established on the Public Buyers Community Platform.

Access to this community is exclusive to active participants of the Procurement Dialogue workshops, ensuring focused engagement and knowledge sharing among participating Member States. Members will benefit from exchanging valuable resources and best practices. Importantly, confidentiality will be upheld through careful management, with confidential information staying protected within a secure space. Furthermore, through the platform, stakeholders can stay updated on developments via news items and events.

This endeavour underscores the European Commission’s commitment to promoting sustainable, socially responsible, and innovative procurement practices across Member States. By cultivating dialogues and leveraging the Public Buyers Community platform to exchange ideas and expertise, the initiative aims to drive positive transformations in public procurement, ultimately contributing to a more sustainable economy for Europe.
